Causeway Coast Photography Workshop
The Causeway Coast has always had a hold on me. There’s an energy here that’s hard to explain, where Atlantic storms shape the cliffs, ancient ruins stand watch over the sea, and the light shifts minute by minute. I’ve walked this coastline in every season and all kinds of weather, and I keep coming back. No two visits are ever the same, and that’s exactly why I love it.
This tour is about more than just visiting the famous spots. Of course, we’ll photograph the icons: the Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle, Mussenden Temple, and Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. But we’ll also seek out the quiet corners. Weathered headlands, tucked-away coves, and sea stacks that most visitors never find. It’s about slowing down, being present, and giving yourself time to connect with the landscape, not just pass through it.
Summer on the Causeway Coast brings its own kind of magic. Long days, soft golden evenings, wildflowers lining the trails. But this is still the north, and the weather can turn in an instant. A passing shower, sea fog rolling in, or a sudden burst of golden light can change everything in seconds. That’s the beauty of it, and we’ll stay flexible to make the most of whatever nature offers.
I keep the group small so there’s plenty of space for personal guidance and shared conversations. Whether you’re experienced or just starting out, I’ll be with you every step of the way, helping you tune into the light, shape your compositions, and capture something truly memorable.

This Causeway Coast Photography Workshop is all about keeping things simple, relaxed, and focused on what really matters, being in the right place at the right time to capture beautiful images.
We’ll be based in one carefully chosen location along the Causeway Coast, giving us easy access to a wide variety of stunning spots all within about a 60 minute drive. No need to pack up and move every other day. Once you arrive and settle in, that’s it you can fully focus on your photography without the hassle of living out of a suitcase.
Each evening, I’ll check the latest forecast and send out a plan for the following day via our WhatsApp group. That way, we stay flexible and can make the most of whatever the weather gives us, whether it’s golden light at sunrise, moody skies over the coast, or glowing evenings after rain.
Day 1 – Arrival & Sunset Session
Welcome to Northern Ireland!
I’ll be doing airport pick-ups from Dublin Airport (DUB) between 10am and midday. If you’re flying in the day before, I can collect you from the nearby airport hotel, just let me know in advance.
Once everyone’s arrived, we’ll make the drive north to our base in Portrush along the Causeway Coast. There’ll be time to settle into your room, grab a coffee, and get to know the rest of the group.
That evening, we’ll head out for our first sunset shoot, nothing too demanding, just a gentle start to ease into the tour. The location will be decided once we’ve checked the conditions, but you can expect a strong start to the week.
Days 2 to 6 – Chasing Light & Exploring the Coast
This is where the adventure really begins.
Each evening, I’ll review the weather forecast and share a flexible plan for the next day. This usually includes whether we’re aiming for a sunrise shoot, where we’ll go for sunset, and any breaks or downtime in between. Our days are guided by the light, not the clock.
Some days might start early with a sunrise session, followed by a relaxed mid-morning back at base. Others might involve a slower start, giving us the chance to rest or review images before heading out for a longer afternoon and evening shoot.
We’ll explore a rich mix of locations from world-famous icons like the Giant’s Causeway, Dunluce Castle, Kinbane Castle, and Mussenden Temple, to lesser-known gems hidden along the coast. Expect sea arches, wild cliffs, rocky headlands, and remote beaches where you can truly connect with the landscape.
Throughout the tour, I’ll be there to help with anything from composition advice and camera settings to creative ideas. Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, there’s always something new to learn or a different way to see things.
Day 7 – Sunrise Shoot & Departure
On our last morning, we’ll squeeze in one final shoot (if the weather allows) to make the most of every moment here.
Afterwards, we’ll return to our accommodation for breakfast, packing up, and check-out at 11am. Then it’s back to Dublin Airport, we’ll aim to arrive no later than 5pm.

I recently returned from a photography trip to Lofoten, Norway with Chasing Light Tours Ltd., and it genuinely exceeded all my expectations. Every moment was fantastic from start to finish. Accommodation was another highlight — staying in a 150+ year‑old traditional Norwegian house was a real treat and added so much character to the overall experience. Just back from a fabulous workshop in Lofoten with Tyler. First off - Lofoten is a landscape photographer’s paradise with a multitude of stunning locations all within easy reach. This means more time photographing and less time driving between photo stops. Bear in mind that the weather is volatile. and can be absolutely wild. This means potentially days lost (as we found out) but can also give some incredible shooting conditions as the storms clear. Tyler is a superb photographer (check out his images if you haven't done so) and he knows the locations intimately. He is knowledgable and willing to provide as much guidance as you need or to leave you alone to do your own thing if that's what you prefer. He is also very skilled in using Lightroom/Photoshop and gave us a tutorial one evening which was incredibly useful. The upshot is that you are bound to come back with lots of memorable and stunning images. Oh, and Tyler has a great instinct for finding the Aurora which meant we were chasing it whenever the skies were clear. This resulted in a truly epic night at Vik beach where we captured the lights in all their glory. The cherry on the top of a truly memorable trip!
My trip to Senja with Chasing Light Tours was fantastic, the locations were great and the guiding first class. A real shout out goes to the choice of accommodation - comfortable and convenient with photo locations right on our doorstep! Adding to this a year later, having done a second trip with Tyler to the Lofoten Islands. A fantastic week which was well organised at every stage. Learning with me is relaxed and personal. There’s no set curriculum, no pressure. You grow at your own pace, ask whatever you want, and I work around where you are, not where I think you should be.
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to push your creative boundaries further, I’ll guide you through techniques that suit your level. That might mean learning how to bracket exposures for tricky light, using long exposures to create drama and mood, or refining the way you see and shoot a scene. I’ll review your images in the field, offer practical, constructive feedback, and share tips along the way, from nailing your focus to getting the most out of your filters.
Most importantly, I want to help you feel confident in your photography and inspired to develop your own style. The goal isn’t just to come home with great photos, but to come away feeling like those images truly belong to you.
Here are a few of the key skills I can cover:
Camera Settings
RAW, using Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO effectively, and help you understand the different modes on your camera so you feel in control of every shot.
Composition
Composition is everything in landscape photography. I’ll show you what I look for when framing an image and help you develop your eye for strong, thoughtful compositions.
Long Exposures
If the conditions are right, we’ll experiment with long exposures to create striking, atmospheric images from smoothing out water to capturing cloud movement.
Histogram
I’ll show you how to actually read your histogram and use it as your exposure guide. Get this right and you’ll stop second-guessing your exposures in the field.
Low Light
We’ll cover how to handle low-light conditions, from golden hour right through to shooting in the dark. Night sky photography, star trails, long exposures after sunset.
Editing
I’ll walk you through my Lightroom workflow and show you how I take a raw file from capture to finished image. Photoshop for the trickier stuff if needed.
You’ll have full support throughout, but I’ll never be over your shoulder unless you want me to be. My job is to help you feel confident and creative, and to get out of your way when you don’t need me.
Good to Know
UK ETA – Electronic Travel Authorisation: Because the tour is in Northern Ireland, you’ll need to apply for a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) if you’re from a country that requires a visa to enter the UK.
The ETA costs £16, takes just a few minutes to apply for, and is usually approved within a few hours. Still, I recommend applying at least 3 days before travel to be safe.

Flights: You will fly to Dublin Airport (DUB). If you’re flying in on the day the tour starts, you need to ensure your flight arrives no later than midday. If you can’t get a flight before midday, then I advise you to fly in a day or 2 earlier.
Meeting Point: The meeting point for the workshop will be Dublin Airport (DUB) or accommodation in the surrounding area from 10am until midday. I recommend the Maldron Hotel Dublin Airport if you’re flying in a day early.
Accommodation: We’ll be staying in a selection of carefully chosen hotels and guesthouses along the Causeway Coast. Each property has been selected for its comfort, service, and location, giving us relaxing bases close to our photography spots.
Twin Share Rooms: Accommodation is based on twin share. If you’re travelling solo, you won’t pay anything extra, you’ll simply be paired with another guest of the same sex. Each room comes with comfortable separate beds and a private ensuite bathroom, so you’ll still have the space to unwind after a full day of shooting.
Single Supplement: If you prefer the privacy of your own room, a single supplement of £900 applies. As availability is limited, single rooms are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Packing List: A full packing list will be emailed to you after you complete your booking.
Hiking: Some of the best viewpoints do require a bit of effort where maybe you’ll need to walk no more than 30 – 60 minutes one-way, this could be across mostly flat ground with the odd bit of up and down. Kinbane Castle has 140 steps from the top of the cliff down. If you’ve got bad knees or walking issues then unfortunately this might not be the best fit for you.

No, there isn’t! My Donegal, Causeway Coast, and North West Ireland tours all have guaranteed departures. Whether just one person books or a group of five, the tour will always go ahead.

If you’re arriving the day before, I can collect you from a nearby hotel close to the airport. However, if your travel plans fall outside the designated pick-up/drop-off times, you will need to arrange your own transport to meet the group.
While my photography tours cater to all skill levels, having a basic understanding of photography will enhance your experience. It’s helpful to be familiar with concepts like the exposure triangle, histograms, and terms such as exposure bracketing, exposure compensation, and focus bracketing. Being comfortable with your camera is just as important as understanding photography concepts. The more familiar you are with adjusting settings quickly, the better equipped you’ll be to capture great shots in dynamic environments. During the tour, I’ll provide personalised instruction to help you improve, whether you’re just starting out or are already an experienced photographer.
I recommend bringing a DSLR or mirrorless camera, various lenses (wide-angle, telephoto), a sturdy tripod, extra batteries, memory cards, ND Filters (3/6/10 Stop, CPL) weather-appropriate clothing, and comfortable walking shoes.

Yes, you can bring a drone on the Causeway Coast Photography Tour. However, it’s essential to comply with the UK & Ireland’s drone regulations to ensure safe and legal operations.
The tour starts from Dublin Airport (DUB). Pick-up will be between 10 am and midday on arrival day.
If you’re flying in the day before, I can collect you from a nearby hotel close to the airport. If you arrive outside the designated pick-up times, you’ll need to arrange your own transport to meet the group at our first base on the Causeway Coast.

Some of the best vantage points do require a little effort to reach. Expect walks of never no more than 1 hour, depending on the location, and the terrain can vary. Some routes are uphill and rocky, others are flat paths through sand dunes, and some follow gravel tracks or sheep trails.
You don’t need to be an athlete, but if you struggle with mobility or longer walks, these tour might not be suitable. I’ll always give you a heads-up in advance of each shoot, and we’ll take our time getting there but being able to move confidently and safely across different terrain is an important part of the experience.
I would recommended at least £30-£50 per day. Everywhere accepts cards, however small independent businesses do prefer cash.
