Dolomites Photography Tours

Embark on an intimate Dolomites photography tour where you’ll be expertly guided to the most awe-inspiring locations at the perfect moments. With personalised support, you’ll expand your understanding of light, lenses, and filters, all while enjoying the freedom to unleash your creative spirit.

My Dolomites Photography Tour is split between two picturesque bases: Ortisei and Cortina d’Ampezzo. While accommodations are set for specific dates, the activities during our stay are not, ensuring a flexible itinerary tailored to the best photography opportunities.

Every day, we’ll capture stunning images during prime shooting times, including sunrise, sunset, and even nighttime sessions, when conditions allow. After each sunrise shoot, we’ll return to our accommodation for a well-earned breakfast, followed by ample free time to edit your photos, rest, or explore the charming local area. As the afternoon unfolds, we’ll set out once more, ready to capture the breathtaking beauty of the Dolomites at sunset.

I recently took part in the Senja 2024 February Trip, and it was truly incredible. Not only were we blessed with incredible weather conditions, but Tyler's dedication was exceptional. He goes above and beyond to ensure his workshop exceeds expectations. Tyler is genuinely easygoing, and chatting with him about photography, or anything else for that matter, was an absolute pleasure. Thank you, Tyler. I look forward to crossing paths again someday! Best regards, Philipp

The Plan

From my experience of running over 30 photography tours, having a fixed daily itinerary is limiting your chances of going home with the best possible images.

I work with the weather as much as possible and visit locations based on the best forecasted weather conditions. This ensures that I’m putting you in the right place at the right time.

Each morning will be on location 1 hour or so before sunrise, and each sunset we’ll be there until 1 hour after sunset.

The below will give you a rough idea of what the plan is.

Day 1 – Arrival Day

This is the arrival day. I’ll be picking everyone up from the airport at midday. Afterward, we’ll embark on a 3-hour drive to our accommodation in Ortesi, making a stop at the supermarket to gather any snacks we may need. We’ll also squeeze in our first sunset of the week, afterwards we’ll go out for dinner.

Day 2 to 6 – The Adventure

This is where the real adventure begins. Over the next five full days, we will be photographing during the best times of the day: sunrise and sunset. Each morning, we’ll rise early, regardless of the weather, to arrive at our location at least one hour before sunrise. After the sunrise shoot, we’ll return to our base for breakfast, and in the mid-afternoon, we’ll head to our sunset location.

Day 7 – Departure Day

We will shoot a sunrise before checking out of our accommodation and heading for the airport with drop offs back at the airport at midday.

Goodbyes are never easy. I’ll be saying “see you later” with the hope that you’ll join me on another adventure soon. On this day, we’ll take you to the airport for your flights home.

Drop-offs back to the airport will be around midday.

During this time of year, sunrise occurs around 7:00 am, and sunset is around 7:30 pm.

Your Guide

Photographer, Light Chaser, Aurora Guide, Web Dev, Biker, Daddy and I’ve got a very understanding girlfriend in no particular order.

What you’ll learn

On this trip I’m at your complete disposal to help and teach you everything I know about photography (if you want).

Here are a few of the key photography techniques that I can cover:

Composition & Light : Composition & light is everything in landscape photography. Learn more about the various techniques I use when composing a landscape photograph from the basics of rules of thirds, to symmetry to leading lines and much more.

Long Exposures: Learn how to use filters and take long exposures so you can create dramatic and interesting photographs.

Histogram: Learn how to read your histogram so that you’re exposing correctly and capturing maximum data with no clipping.

Low Light: Learn how to photograph the night sky or low light.

Panoramas: Learn how to shoot panoramas; both horizontal and vertical

Lightroom: Learn how I import, organise and edit a range of my photographs using Adobe Lightroom Classic

Photoshop: Learn how I finalise my images in Adobe Photoshop

Exporting: Learn how I export and sharpen my images for Social Media & Web

Good to Know

Packing List – A full packing list will be emailed after booking.

Accommodation: During my Dolomites Photography Tours, we have the privilege of experiencing two distinct locations. The first half of our journey unfolds in the scenic Ortesi area, while the second half embraces the beauty of Cortina. Throughout our adventure, I aim to provide self-catering accommodations whenever feasible, allowing you the flexibility to savor your own culinary preferences. Rest assured, I will ensure the accommodation details are confirmed well in advance, ensuring a seamless and comfortable stay for all participants.

Flights – Fly to Marco Polo (VCE). I will fly into Italy a few days before the tour begins. I try and work with everyone in terms of their flights. All I ask is if you’re flying in on the day the tour start, just ensure your flight arrives no later than midday, if you can’t get a flight before midday, then I advise you to fly in a day or 2 earlier.

Meeting Point: We will meet at midday under the water tower outside the terminal at Marco Polo (VCE). Once you leave the terminal, continue straight and you’ll see it, you can’t miss it. I will also be in constant contact with you on the days leading up to arrival day. After I’ve picked everyone up, we’ll me heading straight towards our accommodation with a stop at the supermarket to pick up some supplies for the days ahead.

Ending Point: Dropoffs at the airport will be outside the terminal at Marco Polo (VCE) at midday.

Hiking – Many of the locations do require hiking. You don’t need to be an athlete but you must be able to walk on uneven, sometimes steep and slippery ground for maybe up to 2 hours one way. It’s also important to note that we’ll be hiking at higher altitude as well (2000m plus) where you can notice the air being thinner and at times it can be quite strenuous.

Gondolas – it’s worth knowing that there are gondolas to a lot of the locations we visit, however because we’re shooting at sunrise and sunset, they aren’t operating at the times we have to be there.

Self Catering – All my tours are based on self catering. We will visit the supermarket on the day we arrive and gather what’s needed for a few days so that we can bring packed lunches with us each day. We will revisit the supermarket a couple of times throughout the trip too.  There will be opportunities throughout the trip to visit cafes and the odd restaurant if we have time. But primarily, we will be eating as we go.

Spending Money – On my last trip, I managed to spend approximately £30 per day. Most places take card, but it is recommended to also bring some cash for those smaller shops or Refugio’s if they’re open.

UK Mobile Network – If coming from the UK, your data roaming will work and come out of your data back home.

Travel Adapter – Italy use their own 3 pin plug, not the standard Euro plug.
