From my experience of running over 30 photography tours, having a fixed daily itinerary is limiting your chances of going home with the best possible images.
I like to work with the weather as much as possible and visit locations based on the current weather conditions. As an example, you can drive through a tunnel where on one side it’s clear blue skies and the other side there’s a blizzard.
Each evening I will “plan” the next day and let everyone know what time we’ll be leaving the next morning. This ensures that I’m putting you in the right place at the right time.
The tour starts from Vágar Airport (FAE), Faroe Islands. When looking at flights, please arrive no later than 5PM on arrival day. If your flight arrives after this, drop me a message and I will help you as best I can.
If you are travelling the day before, just let me know so I can arrange to collect you.
Day 1 – Arrival Day
This is the arrival day, I’ll be collecting everyone from the airport. Depending on what time everyone lands, we will squeeze in a sunset shoot. We’ll get settled into our accommodation for the next week and run over the “plan” for the week. Retiring early for our start the next morning.
Day 2 to 7 – The Adventure
This is where the real adventure begins.
Over the next 6 full days we will be photographing at every opportunity we can get. We’ll be getting up early every morning (regardless of weather) to be on location 1 hour before sunrise, after each sunrise shoot we’ll head for breakfast before heading to our next location.
Each sunset location, we’ll be there roughly 2 hours before so that we can each scope out our sunset composition.
On the final evening, we’ll head out for our final meal together where we can look back on our amazing week together.
Day 8 – Departure Day
Goodbyes are forever, I’ll be saying see you later as I hope you’ll join me on another adventure. We’ll head to the airport where everyone can catch their flights home.
Don’t just take my word for it…
THE REVIEWS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES
I love travel to new locations with experienced photographer, as they know what it takes for great photography. Tyler's Chasing Light Tour trip to Faroe Islands really exceeded my expectations. His friendly attitude, high level of energy and location knowledge wrapped in a very attractive pricing. The experience is a calm, no rush, peaceful reunion with the nature and stunning landscape, and Taylor will be here brining you back to base at the end of the day.
I was lucky enough to go on a photography tour to Lofoten last month with Chasing Lights Tours and I couldn't have asked for a better guide than Tyler. He is a knowledgeable and experienced photographer, and he provided valuable tips and advice on everything from camera set-ups through to post-production techniques. Throughout the tour, Tyler was easy going, generous and had a great sense of humour. He was also a confident and safe driver, taking us to some great locations in the archipelago. Thanks to his knowledge of the best viewing areas and an understanding of the necessary weather conditions, I was able to see the northern lights on two occasions! I had an amazing trip and felt that I learnt a lot during the tour. I am now more confident in using my camera kit and have some beautiful photos and memories of taking them which I will cherish. I can't recommend Tyler and Chasing Lights Tours highly enough - it was a fantastic experience, and I am very grateful to Tyler for making it so enjoyable.
The Lofoten Photography Tour with Chasing Light Tours was excellent! Tyler is an accomplished and creative photographer who is extremely professional and very knowledgeable. The entire tour was packed full of relevant information that was presented in a very accessible and user-friendly way, about focusing, aperture settings, shutter speeds, ISO settings and much, much more. This enabled me to use my camera to its full potential. The tour was also enjoyable and fun. Tyler looked after everyone extremely well and drove with care and skill on the icy roads. He took us to well-chosen locations that he had previously researched and visited to maximise photographic potential. The spacious accommodation that we stayed in was great and had all the amenities that we needed. I highly recommend going on a photography tour with Chasing Light Tours!
Tyler led us through a trip to Lofoten in the end of January 2023. His experience within this area, his patience with clients and aurora borealis (northern lights) forecasting skills made it a once in a lifetime experience. Tyler’s workshops consist of small groups, so he can pick everyone up at his/her photography level. Whether you are experienced or not, he‘ll improve you. Thanks for the great trip!
Having been on many photo tours with multiple organisations, I can honestly say that "Chasing Light Tours" is right up there as one of the very best; first class service from start to finish! I especially love the "small group" aspect of the trips offered by Tyler and they are all exceptionally good value! Two more adventures already booked with "Chasing Light Tours" and very much looking forward to them.......
Just back from a fantastic trip with Tyler to the Lofoten Islands. The trip was managed expertly from start to finish, and the small group size meant you got as much or little tuition as you wanted. Tyler clearly knows the area intimately, and the right time to visit, and really enjoys the ever changing landscapes, he isn’t simply going through the motions. We even got woken late at night when Tyler spotted the lights and given the option to go out and see. You can tell he wants to get you the best experience, and photographic opportunities possible. I think it’s fair to say we all come back happy with our images and shared adventure, and I for one will be re-booking sometime soon. Life is all about getting these type of amazing experiences so if you get the chance, go for it. Thanks Tyler.
I was on the 7 nights Lofoten Islands photo tour with Tyler and 3 other photographers in October 2022. Tyler knows the Lofoten Islands very well and knows landscape and Northern Lights photography very well. He took us to many great locations. The weather was somewhat challenging with rain, some high winds and snow. But we were able to go out 3 nights for Auroras and got some nice photos. He provides help with camera settings to get the best captures. Group size is kept small. Follow his guidelines for clothing (make sure you have waterproof gloves and pants) and you can be comfortable in the weather. I can recommend Tyler to help you get the most out of a photography trip to the Lofoten Islands.
I have always wanted to visit Lofoten to take landscape photographs. A friend suggested Chasing Light Tours. I was not disappointed even though there were several rainy days. Tyler Collins was an outstanding tour leader. Apart from being a very competent photographer, he had expert knowledge of the area and took us to the best locations for the weather conditions. Tyler gave technical and composition advice where needed, in an pleasant and friendly manner. Tylor has years of experience in this field which is very apparent.
Couldn't rate the tour any higher, from the moment of booking through to the group session in advance of the trip and on to the trip itself. There was great care taken to get the group to the right place at the right time ensuring we got the most from the trip. This was a bucket list trip for me an I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to have guided me than Tyler @ chasing light tours
This was my first workshop abroad and to say Tylar made the whole process fantastic is an understatement. He shared his knowledge of the locations and gave us a great "craic" filled few days. When I can I will be sure to head on another adventure with Chasing Light tours.
Iceland was one of the best trips i've been on in a very long! The craic was amazing and Tylers knowledge of Iceland is unbelievable and his tips and advice for taking the photos makes all the difference 🙂 Highly recommend especially for the price point!
Thoroughly enjoyed my 5 day tour to Skye with Tyler. The process of booking was easy and communication good. Tyler knew the locations well and was able to chose the best for the day based on the weather forecast. He's an excellent teacher and I learned a huge amount about landscape photography. The proof is the photo I took at the end of the trip in Glen Coe on the way home which I would never have been able to take before the trip. Unfortunately the weather frustrated us a fair bit so there was no chance to do any aurora shoots or astrophotography but these we very much in Tyler's plans. We stayed in Dunvegan which did mean a fair amount of driving each day and perhaps Portree would have been better but our Airbnb accommodation worked well for the group. Already thinking about which trip to do next.....
This was my first photography workshop. I am a fairly novice landscape photographer. I learnt a huge amount very quickly in camera setup and composition. Early hops to catch the sunrise. Tyler was patient and helpful, and easy company. Lots of help after shooting with Lightroom as well. What you get out of this will depend on your experience - if you are very experienced then it will be tips and being taken to good locations, if less experienced then the basics will be covered. I would happily join Tyler again for a workshop. Really enjoyable, thanks.
A thoroughly enjoyable experience in Iceland! Tyler’s expertise has helped me view the process of photography in a completely new light. We saw the Aurora on technically 4 nights, very impressive given the forecast for the week! Thanks so much Tyler for an amazing experience. Will be on another tour in the future!
Great photography tour. Tyler is an excellent tutor when it comes to providing advise on how to improve your photographic skills and composition. He is very attentive to the needs of the participants and always willing to help. The tour will take you to some very nice location for landscape photography. This is not a touristy tour it is made for photographers who like landscape and nature photography. We have been lucky enough to see 4 times the Northern lights, at varied degrees of activity but managed to get some good photography. The tour is fairly fluid in terms of schedule, based on weather conditions and light. Really recommend it for people who want to improve their photography skills, while enjoying rural Iceland.
Great November tour to Iceland. Tyler makes everybody feel included and is free with his advice and tuition so that we all could get the best photographs we could. This is helped by the genuine small group nature of his tours. Time is spent at great locations at the best possible moments. The day starts with sunrise photography but doesn't end at sunset as we had a number of nights photographing the aurora. This is a photographers trip not a rush around to see every possible sight on the itinerary tourist trip. Highly recommended for photographers of all skill levels.
I joined a tour to Iceland in November 2021. It was everything I expected and more. Tyler is a great non-nonsense guide who creates a relaxed atmosphere while using every available minute. I got some great tips here and there that were to the point and will help me in the rest of my picture-making 'career'. This is not a luxury tour and that's fine by me. We arranged our own food wherever we could. Supermarket, gas station, restaurant, whatever was available. Accomodations were comfortable and clean. And most important of all, I returned with many great pictures !!
Tyler's tour of the Lofoten Islands was an incredible experience. If you are expecting 5 star hotels and fine dining look elsewhere but what you do get is real knowledge of the area and some great inspiration to take epic photos. We were lucky enough to see aurora 2 nights of the trip but the rest of the week was spent in some amazing places. Highly recommend Tyler Collins Photography
Been to Norway, Lofoten with Tyler, 7 days of photography, 7 great days in good company. Tyler nows photography and is very will prepared, get us to the right place at the right time, we visited amazing locations, Tyler gives good advies about focusing and composition. Driving on the ice roads is a skill, never felt unsafe for a moment! I would highly recommend booking one of their tours or workshops, you won't be disapointed.
I attended Tyler's Lofoten tour Feb 2020 and what an experience it was. We got some amazing photos and Tyler is a first class guide with great knowledge and experience with conditions being tough he still went out of his way to get the group to locations where others would have just said no it's snowing and subsequently we got amazing winter shots. I would wholeheartedly recommend Tyler as a guide and an expert on Northern lights with such experience and gut feelings which paid off with four nights of aurora activity. Book him now you won't regret it.
I joined Tyler and Steven for the Iceland photography tour back in October 2019. It was my first time in Iceland and I'm glad they were able to show us around the place. They taught me new photography techniques like shooting panorama and the proper settings for capturing the aurora. They also made sure we got to the best locations by planning out the timing of the light and when it's not full of tourists. We also stayed in amazing hotels / hostels. I would definitely book another tour with them.
A great experience to Isle of sky with Tyler, I have learned a lot from him. I am expecting next trip with Tyler again!
I recently returned from a workshop with Tyler at the Lofoten island's. The whole trip from start to finish was excellent. Even when conditions were extremely difficult for photography (2 day snow blizzard), we managed to get fantastic images, if it wasn't for Tylers determination to get us out, I would have stayed in the log cabin with the fire going! Tyler had obviously done his homework regarding sunrise and sunset locations, and due to this we got nice side lighting on each location. We were lucky enough to get aurora 4 nights out of 7 and the last night the sky exploded which put the icing on the cake. Tyler is a perfectionist when it comes to composition and i learnt a lot from him during this trip. If you are lokking a tour where you a going to visit Epic locations, get great tuition and brilliant craic Tylers your man.
Second tour with Chasing Light and another great set of images!
Great trip with Tyler to Iceland. Well thought through itinerary and his dedication and commitment are unsurpassed. Look forward to travelling with him again next year.
What a great 2-day adventure traveling around Northern Ireland with Tyler! Tyler planned our entire 2-days, bringing us to some fantastic locations for what we called “photography camp” for a group of 3 of us. He customized the 8 hr days based on each of our learning needs/desires and made sure we arrived at each location with plenty of time to catch great photos. Even the rain didn’t stop us...it made for a perfect opportunity to catch a rainbow shot. He also went out of his way to pick us up/return us to our hotel. Highly recommend his private tours and we can’t wait to join him on one of his trips to see northern lights sometime!
Do you know how to use a Histogram? Or why it’s important not to blow out your highlights? You will have that “Ah HA!” moment spending time with Tyler!
Me and my uncle had a great weekend on the Causeway Coast and Donegal with Tyler. The weather on the second day for sunrise wasn’t great, but Tyler on his own time offered to take us out the following evening for sunset at Malin Head, and that’s where I got my best pictures. Certainly felt that my composition and knowledge of long exposures went up after spending time with Tyler. Looking forward to coming across for another visit!
Tyler is a great leader and very knowledgeable, I certainly learnt a lot from him! He worked really hard to make sure he got us to each location in time, with good light. I would definitely recommend his services 😊
What an amazing week that was ! I already visited Iceland once in the past but a dedicated photography workshop really makes a huge difference. And Tyler is no stranger to the success of last week workshop. First keeping voluntarily the number of participants low (we were 4) makes the experience more 1-to-1 style, more personal. Easier to get advice on composition, equipment,….. Tyler really works hard for everybody to have a wonderful time and to get back home with pictures to be happy with, sometimes driving very long distance just to get the right light at the right moment. He also constantly adapts the schedule to both weather conditions and participants wishes. Don’t be deter by the relative lower prices compared to the crazy expensive 15-participants workshop one finds on internet. This just makes the choice of Tyler’s workshop even more straightforward. Would I go for another workshop with Tyler ? Tomorrow without any hesitation ! Thank you Tyler ! Thank you ! Thank you !
Just came back from Iceland from one of Tylers workshop and had the time of my life. I learnt so much from this workshop. Tyler was very attentive to all that were on the group, answered all my questions without hesitation. If you are looking to have more knowledge in photography this workshop is exactly what you want and need. You will go back home wanting more. Thank you for all.
What you’ll learn
On this Faroe Islands Photography Tour I’m at your complete disposal to help and teach you everything I know about photography.
Here are a few of the key skills that I’ll be covering:
Camera Settings: It starts with the basics. RAW, Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. Learn how and when to use the various modes on your camera to get the shot you want.
Composition: Composition is everything in landscape photography. Learn how to compose a landscape photograph.
Long Exposures: Learn how to use long exposures so you can create dramatic and interesting photographs.
Histogram: Learn how to read your histogram so that you’re exposing correctly and capturing maximum data with no clipping.
Low Light: Learn how to photograph the night sky and if luck is on our side, we’ll also shoot the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).
Editing: Learn how I edit my photographs using Adobe Lightroom Classic with final touches in Photoshop.
Photographer, Light Chaser, Aurora Guide, Web Dev, Biker, Daddy and I’ve got a very understanding girlfriend in no particular order.
Good to Know
Packing List – A full packing list will be emailed after booking.
Accommodation: I’ve booked a 4 bedroom apartment only 10 minutes from the Airport and 2 minutes from the grocery store.
Flights – Airline: Atlantic Airways. Flights from Edinburgh every Monday & Thursday. Keflavik: Mondays and Fridays. Daily flights from Copenhagen.
Meeting Point: The meeting point will either be at the airport in Edinburgh if you’re on the same flight as me, or in the entrance hall at Vagar (FAE) airport.
Hiking – Many of the locations do require hiking. You don’t need to be an athlete but you must be able to walk on uneven, sometimes steep and slippery ground for maybe up to 2 hours one way.
Self Catering – There isn’t a great choice of restaurants on the island, or they’re closed during off season. We will go to supermarket everyday or every other day to gather what’s necessary for the coming days. Supermarkets are closed on Sundays. Every day I advise to bring lunch and snacks to eat throughout the day.
Spending Money – On my last trip, I managed to spend approximately £30 per day. Everywhere takes card, cash isn’t needed.
UK Mobile Network – I advise to buy a sim card at the airport. Costs approximately £20 and comes with 7GB of data. I used the 2GB of data in 2 days, and topped up 5GB for £10 which lasted the rest of the week.
Travel Adapter – Faroe Islands use the the standard 2 pin Euro plug. I advise to bring 2 of these with you.
