The Ultimate Ireland Photography Tour

From Malin Head to Mizen Head, an unforgettable journey along Ireland’s wild Atlantic edge.

I was born and raised here, so Ireland isn’t a destination for me. It’s home. I’ve spent years wandering its bog roads, headlands, and hidden harbours, and I’m still finding corners that stop me in my tracks. This 12-day tour is a chance to see it the way I do.

We start on the Causeway Coast. The Giant’s Causeway and the Dark Hedges are on the list, but so are the spots most visitors drive straight past. From there we head into Donegal, which is where I spend most of my time and honestly where my heart is as a photographer. Malin Head, Fanad Lighthouse, the cliffs of Slieve League. It’s wild up there in the best possible way.

We move through Mayo, all sea stacks and Atlantic headlands and that restless western light, then into Connemara where the lakes sit perfectly still under the Twelve Bens and the bogland stretches out in every direction. After that it’s the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher, then Kerry and its mountain passes and glacial valleys, and we finish around Killarney and the southwest Cork coastline. Malin Head to Mizen Head, the full length of the island.

This isn’t a highlights reel. We slow down. We wait for light. We look properly at things rather than just pointing a camera at them. There’ll be time to think, time to work through compositions, and I’ll be alongside you throughout, not lecturing, just there when it’s useful.

The group is small and everything’s sorted. Accommodation, transport, location access, local knowledge. You bring your gear and show up ready to shoot.

You’ll go home with images you’re actually happy with, and a few places that’ll stay with you long after.

Tyler Collins
PHOTOGRAPHER AND AURORA GUIDE
I’m from Northern Ireland. I grew up here, I know the roads, and I’ve been photographing this island for years. That matters, because Ireland’s best light is often at places most people don’t know exist, and timing it right means knowing the land, not just the coordinates.

Please note: The list above is just a small selection of the many locations we may visit. My tours are designed to be flexible and responsive to the weather, light, and group preferences, with over 100 locations marked on our internal map. No 2 tours are ever the same, I adapt each day’s itinerary to ensure the best photographic opportunities. Depending on conditions and how much time we spend in each place, we might visit several of these spots or explore completely different ones. Every day offers a unique chance to capture a diverse range of landscapes, with the freedom to explore, adapt, and make the most of whatever the day brings.

Here’s what past guests have said.

Tyler put on a great North West Ireland tour. I learned a lot and got a ton of great photos. I will definitely be signing up for another workshop in the future!

Just got back from the tour of Northern Ireland and Donegal. It was a great, small-group experience. Tyler was very knowledgeable, and took us to many beautiful spots from sunset to sunrise, and offered helpful photography suggestions. I would definitely take a tour with him again.

I throughly enjoyed my tour of North and West Ireland with Chasing Light Photo Tours Tyler's knowledge and history of the area is something you just do not get on the average photo tour. His guidance and selection of photo locations was just so unique. We not only visited known landscape locations but also some locations that I had not known about, which were equally as stunning as known locations. He is also very attentive with the group and safety. In addition, his good-naturedness and humor just add a unique and very enjoyable trip. There were 6 photographers including Tyler and we all got along fantastically. I highly recommend Chasing Light Photo Tours and look forward to another adventure with them. Michael

Tour Itinerary

This 12 day / 11 night Ireland photography tour & workshop offers the chance to capture some of Ireland’s most beautiful and diverse landscapes. Designed to be flexible and responsive to light and weather, the itinerary adapts daily to ensure you’re always in the right place at the right time. With over 100 potential shooting locations and no two tours the same, you’ll photograph everything from golden-hour seascapes to misty mountain scenes.

We begin and end at Dublin Airport, and stay two nights in most locations to reduce packing and maximise photo opportunities.

Days 1-2

Causeway Coast

The tour begins with collection at Dublin Airport by no later than 12 pm (or accommodation in the area), followed by transfer to the Causeway Coast. We will settle in for two nights in Portrush and explore iconic locations including the Giant’s Causeway, Ballintoy Harbour, The Dark Hedges, and Mussenden Temple. Weather permitting, we will photograph sunrise and sunset in the best available conditions.

Days 3-4

Donegal

Due to Donegal’s size and variety, our two-night stay may be split between the Inishowen Peninsula in the north and South Donegal. The first night may be spent in or near Derry ~ Londonderry, giving easy access to the Inishowen Peninsula for locations such as Malin Head and Five Finger Strand.

In North/South Donegal, we will explore places like Fanad Head Lighthouse, Crohy Head, Mount Errigal, and the dramatic Slieve League Cliffs. This split allows us to maximise photo time while reducing long travel days.

Days 5

Mayo

We make a one-night stop in Ballina, County Mayo as we travel south. This flexible day may include locations such as Downpatrick Head, Benbulben, and Glencar Waterfall. It is a scenic transition day with plenty of spontaneous photo stops along the way.

Days 6-7

Connemara

Based in Clifden, we will spend two nights capturing the raw, moody beauty of Connemara. This region is rich with texture and light, from Lough Inagh Valley and reflective lakes to bogland, mountains, and coastal views. Possible locations include Screebe Fishing Hut, and hidden gems only accessible with local knowledge.

Days 8-9

Dingle Peninsula

Our journey continues into County Kerry, where we will spend two nights in Dingle Town. The peninsula offers some of Ireland’s most iconic photography locations, including Dunquin Pier, Coumeenoole Bay, and Dunmore Head. We will plan each shoot around weather and tide conditions to make the most of every session.

Days 10-11

County Kerry

Our final stop takes us inland into Kerry, where we base ourselves near Killarney or Kenmare. From here, we have access to incredible locations such as the Gap of Dunloe, Ladies View, Moll’s Gap, and other scenic points along the Ring of Kerry. This part of the tour allows time to reflect and refine your images as we prepare to return to Dublin.

Days 12

Departure

After a final sunrise shoot and breakfast, we travel back to Dublin. You will be dropped off at Dublin Airport or nearby accommodation, no later than 5 pm.

What to Expect Each Day

We begin and end at Dublin Airport, and stay two nights in most locations to reduce packing and maximise photo opportunities.

No two days look the same, and no two tours are either. We work with whatever the light and weather give us, and honestly some of the best shots come from conditions that look terrible on paper. We don’t follow a fixed schedule. We chase the light.

What you’ll learn

Learning with me is relaxed and personal. There’s no set curriculum, no pressure. You grow at your own pace, ask whatever you want, and I work around where you are, not where I think you should be.

Whether you’re just starting out or looking to push your creative boundaries further, I’ll guide you through techniques that suit your level. That might mean learning how to bracket exposures for tricky light, using long exposures to create drama and mood, or refining the way you see and shoot a scene. I’ll review your images in the field, offer practical, constructive feedback, and share tips along the way, from nailing your focus to getting the most out of your filters.

Most importantly, I want to help you feel confident in your photography and inspired to develop your own style. The goal isn’t just to come home with great photos, but to come away feeling like those images truly belong to you.

Here are a few of the key skills I can cover:

Camera Settings

RAW, using Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO effectively, and help you understand the different modes on your camera so you feel in control of every shot.

Composition

Composition is everything in landscape photography. I’ll show you what I look for when framing an image and help you develop your eye for strong, thoughtful compositions.

Long Exposures

If the conditions are right, we’ll experiment with long exposures to create striking, atmospheric images from smoothing out water to capturing cloud movement.

Histogram

I’ll show you how to actually read your histogram and use it as your exposure guide. Get this right and you’ll stop second-guessing your exposures in the field.

Low Light

We’ll cover how to handle low-light conditions, from golden hour right through to shooting in the dark. Night sky photography, star trails, long exposures after sunset.

Editing

I’ll walk you through my Lightroom workflow and show you how I take a raw file from capture to finished image. Photoshop for the trickier stuff if needed.

You’ll have full support throughout, but I’ll never be over your shoulder unless you want me to be. My job is to help you feel confident and creative, and to get out of your way when you don’t need me.

Good to Know

UK ETA – Electronic Travel Authorisation: Because part of the tour is in Northern Ireland, you’ll need to apply for a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) if you’re from a country that requires a visa to enter the UK.

The ETA costs £16, takes just a few minutes to apply for, and is usually approved within a few hours. Still, I recommend applying at least 3 days before travel to be safe.

Check if you need one and apply here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/electronic-travel-authorisation-eta

Flights: You will fly to Dublin Airport (DUB). If you’re flying in on the day the tour starts, you need to ensure your flight arrives no later than midday. If you can’t get a flight before midday, then I advise you to fly in a day or 2 earlier.

Meeting Point: The meeting point for the workshop will be Dublin Airport (DUB) or accommodation in the surrounding area between 10am until midday. I recommend the Maldron Hotel Dublin Airport if you’re flying in a day early.

Accommodation: We’ll be staying in a selection of carefully chosen hotels and guesthouses along the Wild Atlantic Way. Each property has been selected for its comfort, service, and location, giving us relaxing bases close to our photography spots.

Twin Share Rooms: Accommodation is based on twin share. If you’re travelling solo, you won’t pay anything extra, you’ll simply be paired with another guest of the same sex. Each room comes with comfortable separate beds and a private ensuite bathroom, so you’ll still have the space to unwind after a full day of shooting.

Single Supplement: If you prefer the privacy of your own room, a single supplement of £900 applies. As availability is limited, single rooms are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hiking: Some of the best viewpoints do require a bit of effort. Some locations are beside where we park, others are a gentle 10 to 15 minute walk, and a few can take up to 60 minutes. Terrain ranges from flat paths to grassy headlands with steady climbs, stone steps, wet rocks, and the odd stile or gate. You should be comfortable on uneven, sometimes steep or slippery ground and able to carry your camera bag. If you have knee trouble or significant mobility issues, this workshop may not be the right fit.

Self Catering: Ireland is blessed to have fooderies everywhere. We won’t be stuck for lunches or dinners.

Packing List – A full packing list will be emailed to you after you complete your booking.

Spending Money: I would recommended at least £30-£50 per day. Everywhere accepts cards, however small independent businesses do prefer cash.
