The Plan
Between myself and Darren, we bring over 200 tours’ worth of expertise. Our flexible itinerary maximizes your chances of capturing the best images, with adjustments made daily to account for weather and light. Each morning, we’ll arrive on location about an hour before sunrise, and each evening, we’ll stay until about an hour after sunset.
Here’s an overview of our planned Morocco Photography Tour & Workshop:
Day 1 – Arrival in Marrakech
Today your Morocco Photography Tour begins! We’ll be picking everyone up from the airport or from their accommodation from around midday onwards, after which we’ll set off on a scenic 2.5-hour drive to our accommodation in Essaouira. We’ll make ourselves at home, then head out for our first sunset shoot. We’ll finish the day with a group dinner, getting to know each other and discussing the days ahead.
Photography Highlights: Scenic drive, coastal sunset, Essaouira charm
Day 2 – Full Day in Essaouira
Our first full day will be spent exploring and photographing the vibrant coastal town of Essaouira. With its historic medina, bustling markets, and sweeping Atlantic views, it offers ideal settings for capturing both the charm of Moroccan city life and the allure of the sea.
Photography Highlights: Historic medina, bustling fish market, Atlantic coastline.
Day 3 – Journey to Ait Benhaddou
We’ll embark on a 6.5-hour drive to the famous UNESCO site, Ait Benhaddou, with a break for lunch along the way. Our arrival is timed to capture the afternoon and early evening light for dramatic images of this iconic location.
Photography Highlights: UNESCO site, ancient kasbahs, evening light.
Day 4 – Environmental Portraits & Drive to Agdz
In the morning, we’ll focus on environmental portraits, getting to know local families and documenting their unique way of life. After lunch, we’ll drive approximately 1.5 hours to Agdz, where we’ll settle in for the night.
Photography Highlights: Local portraits, authentic family interactions, Draa Valley landscapes.
Day 5 – Into the Desert
Today, we’ll make a 3.5-hour drive to our desert camp, where we’ll be spending the night in a truly unique setting. As night falls, we’ll have the perfect opportunity to capture breathtaking astrophotography under the expansive desert sky.
Photography Highlights: Desert landscapes, sunset in the dunes, astrophotography.
Day 6 – Return to Zagora
After a morning shoot, we’ll drive 2.5 hours back to Zagora, giving us a chance to review our images, rest, and prepare for the next leg of our journey.
Photography Highlights: Desert sunrise, Zagora’s local atmosphere.
Day 7 – Rissani Market & Elkhorbat Ksar
We’ll start the day with a 3-hour drive to the bustling Rissani market, where you can capture vibrant scenes of local life. Afterward, we’ll continue on to the historical Elkhorbat Ksar, about a 2-hour drive, where we’ll spend the night.
Photography Highlights: Market scenes, street portraits, ancient architecture.
Day 8 – Exploring Elkhorbat Ksar & Nomad Camp
The day will be dedicated to exploring and photographing Elkhorbat Ksar. In the late afternoon, we’ll make a one-hour drive to a nomadic location, where we’ll have the chance to photograph traditional lifestyles and stay overnight.
Photography Highlights: Unique ksar architecture, traditional nomadic life.
Day 9 – Nomadic Portraits & Dades Valley
We’ll spend the morning capturing portraits of the nomadic families, then drive about one hour to the Dades Valley. Here, we’ll photograph the famous zig-zagging road at night, creating dramatic light trail images.
Photography Highlights: Nomadic portraits, Dades Valley landscapes, light trails on mountain roads.
Day 10 – Return to Marrakech
On our final day, we’ll embark on a 6-hour journey back to Marrakech, with drop-offs at the airport scheduled for the late afternoon. Exact timings will be confirmed closer to the date. This marks the end of our adventure, and I’ll bid you farewell with the hope of sharing another journey together soon.

THE REVIEWS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES
Tyler's passion not only for photography, but for helping people hone their skills, made this a trip of a lifetime. Our group had a range of experience and equipment and Tyler met each of us where we were and helped create amazing photos and great memories. We saw an erupting volcano, multiple nights of the aurora, glaciers, mountains, waterfalls, reindeer and ponies, basalt formations, black sand beaches and more. There was a never-ending supply of subjects and shooting conditions. Tyler plans his trips meticiously yet still allowed us to pivot when unplanned events occurred (like an erupting volcano!). He gave us free range to explore, yet kept our safety paramount. Finally, Tyler's knowledge of Iceland took us to places off the beaten path and even when we were at more touristy spots, he timed it so that we were gone as the big tour buses arrived. I highly recommend Tyler and Chasing Light Tours for your next photographic adventure!
Tyler at Chasing the Light Tours was very knowledgeable on both Iceland and photography, nothing was too much trouble to make sure the tour was a success. Our tour was made up of a group of individuals with a mixed photographic experience, Tyler tailored his advice to each, so that they could get the best out of holiday. I would strongly recommend him and plan to travel with him again soon.
I’m rekindling my photo skills and was very rusty ! This was an amazing trip and Tyler had so much patience. I learnt a great deal and we were fortunate to have a fabulous group. Iceland must be seen in small groups ( I did some commercial tours ) and this is the only way to photograph as you have lots of time. I would highly recommend Tyler and I will be going on many more tours in the future. Thanks so much. Really appreciated everything. Mike T. New Forest. Uk.
I spent a great week with Tyler in the Dolomites. It was nice to have all the logistics handled and not having to worry about driving, parking and getting to the right place at the right time. Tyler managed all this and more. I personally learnt a lot from this first time experience in a photo tour directly from him and the group as well. Straight from the trip, I even got a drone (as I had never previously considered it). Tyler was very helpful and the tour overall was fantastic if you are a photographer. The small group size and personalized attention if you have questions made it easily something that I highly recommend.

Accommodation: On our Morocco Photography Tours, enjoy single-room accommodations thoughtfully selected to enhance your experience—from charming riads in bustling medinas to tranquil desert camps under vast, starlit skies. Each stay provides both comfort and privacy, offering the perfect retreat to review your shots and connect with Morocco’s vibrant landscapes and culture at the end of each day’s journey.
Flights – Fly to Marrakech (RAK). I will fly into Morocco a few days before the tour begins. I try and work with everyone in terms of their flights. All I ask is if you’re flying in on the day the tour start, just ensure your flight arrives no later than midday, if you can’t get a flight before midday, then I advise you to fly in a day or 2 earlier.
Meeting Point: We will meet at midday outside the terminal at Marrakech (RAK). We will also be in constant contact with you on the days leading up to arrival day. After we’ve picked everyone up, we’ll be heading straight towards our accommodation with a stop at the supermarket to pick up some supplies for the days ahead.
Ending Point: Dropoffs at the airport will be outside the terminal at Marrakech (RAK) late afternoon on the 25th October..
Self Catering – All my tours are based on self catering. We will visit the supermarket on the day we arrive and gather what’s needed for a few days so that we can bring packed lunches with us each day. We will revisit the supermarket a couple of times throughout the trip too. There will be opportunities throughout the trip to visit cafes and the odd restaurant if we have time. But primarily, we will be eating as we go.
Spending Money – On my last trip, I managed to spend approximately £30 per day. Most places take card, but it is recommended to also bring some cash for those smaller shops.
UK Mobile Network – If coming from the UK, your data roaming will work and come out of your data back home.
