2 Nights Donegal Photography Workshop

Untouched, and virtually unexplored, where do I even begin to describe a Donegal photography workshop. Donegal to me is Ireland’s nicest county. With its dramatic Atlantic Ocean coastline, white sand beaches, waterfalls, famine villages, castles, offshore Islands, dirt tracks that lead to mountain tops, Donegal is a place that just has it all.

Multiple Dates Available!

26th – 28th August 2022

It’s no wonder Donegal was named the “Coolest Place on the Planet for 2017” by National Geographic Traveller.

My Donegal Photography Workshop focuses on us exploring the best photography locations Donegal has to offer. From the most beautiful lighthouse in the world, Fanad Lighthouse to one of Irelands most remotest and stunning beaches and everything in between.

As with all my Photography Tours & Workshops I like to keep participant numbers small, and this photography tour is limited to only four people! This allows me to spend more one on one time with you, helping you with any questions you may have.

Our transport for the week will be in my Land Rover Discovery.

Donegal Photography Workshop

Your Guide

Photographer, Light Chaser, Aurora Guide, Web Dev, Biker, Daddy and I’ve got a very understanding girlfriend in no particular order.

There is no fixed daily itinerary on my Donegal Photography Tour.  I like to work with the weather as much as possible and visit locations based on the current weather/tidal conditions. I want to maximise your chances of going home with great images!

Each day we will be on location before sunrise and shooting all day until after sunset.

The tours starts at 9am on Friday 26th August.

The tour ends after sunset (8:30pm) on Sunday 28th August.

Day 1 – Arrival Day

We’ll meet at our accommodation at 9am ready to start from midday onwards.

Day 2

We’ll be getting up early (regardless of weather) to be on location 1 hour before sunrise, after each sunrise shoot we’ll head for breakfast before heading onto our next location.

Each sunset location, we’ll be there roughly 2 hours before so that we can each scope out our sunset composition.

Day 3 – Departure Day

Another full day of photography, starting at sunrise and shooting right up until sunset when the tour then ends.

Goodbyes are forever, I’ll be saying see you later as I hope you’ll join me on another adventure.

Places we’ll visit

  • Malin Head
  • Five Finger Strand
  • Great Pollet Arch
  • Fanad Head Lighthouse
  • Murder Hole Beach
  • Muckish Views
  • Sheskinmore Nature Reserve
  • An Port
  • Slieve League
  • Asscanara Waterfall
  • Mount Errgial
  • Dunlewey Church
  • Crohy Head Sea Arch

This is just an overview of all the potential locations that we will visit.  We won’t get to every single location as some of the locations depend on the correct weather/tide conditions.

What you’ll learn

On this trip I’m at your complete disposal to help and teach you everything I know about photography.

Here are a few of the key skills that I’ll be covering:

Camera Settings: It starts with the basics. RAW, Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. Learn how and when to use the various modes on your camera to get the shot you want.

CompositionComposition is everything in landscape photography. Learn how to compose a landscape photograph.

Long Exposures: Learn how to use long exposures so you can create dramatic and interesting photographs.

Histogram: Learn how to read your histogram so that you’re exposing correctly and capturing maximum data with no clipping.

Low Light: Learn how to photograph the night sky and if luck is on our side, we’ll also shoot the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).

Editing: Learn how I edit my photographs using Adobe Lightroom Classic with final touches in Photoshop.

What’s included?

  • Transport throughout tour
  • 2 Nights Accommodation (Single occupancy) in our shared house
  • Any entrance fees.
  • Photographic guidance
  • Flights/Travel to/from Donegal
  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner and alcohol or snacks.
  • Travel & Equipment Insurance

Good to Know

Accommodation: I’ve booked a house with all facilities needed.  Each participant will have their own room.

Hiking – Many of the locations do require hiking. You don’t need to be an athlete but you must be able to walk on uneven, sometimes steep and slippery ground for maybe up to 2 hours one way.

Self Catering – All my tours are self catering. We will visit the supermarket on the day we arrive and gather what’s needed for a few days so that we can bring packed lunches with us each day. We will revisit the supermarket a couple of times throughout the trip too.  There will be opportunities throughout the trip to visit cafes and the odd restaurant if we have time. But primarily, we will be eating as we go.

Spending Money – On my last trip, I managed to spend approximately £20/£25 per day. Everywhere takes card, cash isn’t needed.

UK Mobile Network – If coming from the UK, your data roaming will work and come out of your data back home.
