Iceland Photography Tours

This trip includes everything except your flights and food. Once you arrive, I’ll look after you, airport transfers, transport during the tour, accommodation, guiding, and all tuition.

This Iceland Photography Tour has been planned with the photographer right in the center, we’ll go where the light is at it’s best or getting you to where you’ll have clear skies to watch and photograph the Aurora Borealis. Although we are working from a fixed itinerary, do not despair, it won’t be a case of getting 15 minutes to photograph each location, we’ll have plenty of time to explore the areas and if we’re driving down the road and you spot something you like, if safe to do so, I will stop!

Each day we will be on location before sunrise and shooting all day until after sunset.

As with all my Iceland Photography Tours & Workshops I like to keep the numbers small, and this photo tour is limited to only five people! This allows me to spend more one on one time with you, helping you with any questions you may have.

Transport for the week will be a 9 mini bus or similar.

What an amazing week that was ! I already visited Iceland once in the past but a dedicated photography workshop really makes a huge difference. And Tyler is no stranger to the success of last week workshop. First keeping voluntarily the number of participants low (we were 4) makes the experience more 1-to-1 style, more personal. Easier to get advice on composition, equipment,….. Tyler really works hard for everybody to have a wonderful time and to get back home with pictures to be happy with, sometimes driving very long distance just to get the right light at the right moment. He also constantly adapts the schedule to both weather conditions and participants wishes. Don’t be deter by the relative lower prices compared to the crazy expensive 15-participants workshop one finds on internet. This just makes the choice of Tyler’s workshop even more straightforward. Would I go for another workshop with Tyler ? Tomorrow without any hesitation ! Thank you Tyler ! Thank you ! Thank you !

A thoroughly enjoyable experience in Iceland! Tyler’s expertise has helped me view the process of photography in a completely new light. We saw the Aurora on technically 4 nights, very impressive given the forecast for the week! Thanks so much Tyler for an amazing experience. Will be on another tour in the future!

Great photography tour. Tyler is an excellent tutor when it comes to providing advise on how to improve your photographic skills and composition. He is very attentive to the needs of the participants and always willing to help. The tour will take you to some very nice location for landscape photography. This is not a touristy tour it is made for photographers who like landscape and nature photography. We have been lucky enough to see 4 times the Northern lights, at varied degrees of activity but managed to get some good photography. The tour is fairly fluid in terms of schedule, based on weather conditions and light. Really recommend it for people who want to improve their photography skills, while enjoying rural Iceland.

Great November tour to Iceland. Tyler makes everybody feel included and is free with his advice and tuition so that we all could get the best photographs we could. This is helped by the genuine small group nature of his tours. Time is spent at great locations at the best possible moments. The day starts with sunrise photography but doesn't end at sunset as we had a number of nights photographing the aurora. This is a photographers trip not a rush around to see every possible sight on the itinerary tourist trip. Highly recommended for photographers of all skill levels.

I joined Tyler and Steven for the Iceland photography tour back in October 2019. It was my first time in Iceland and I'm glad they were able to show us around the place. They taught me new photography techniques like shooting panorama and the proper settings for capturing the aurora. They also made sure we got to the best locations by planning out the timing of the light and when it's not full of tourists. We also stayed in amazing hotels / hostels. I would definitely book another tour with them.

I joined a tour to Iceland in November 2021. It was everything I expected and more. Tyler is a great non-nonsense guide who creates a relaxed atmosphere while using every available minute. I got some great tips here and there that were to the point and will help me in the rest of my picture-making 'career'. This is not a luxury tour and that's fine by me. We arranged our own food wherever we could. Supermarket, gas station, restaurant, whatever was available. Accomodations were comfortable and clean. And most important of all, I returned with many great pictures !!

Just came back from Iceland from one of Tylers workshop and had the time of my life. I learnt so much from this workshop. Tyler was very attentive to all that were on the group, answered all my questions without hesitation. If you are looking to have more knowledge in photography this workshop is exactly what you want and need. You will go back home wanting more. Thank you for all.

Itinerary

From my experience of running over 30 photography tours, having a fixed daily itinerary is limiting your chances of going home with the best possible images.

I work with the weather as much as possible and visit locations based on the best forecasted weather conditions. This ensures that I’m putting you in the right place at the right time.

Each morning will be on location 1 hour or so before sunrise, and each sunset we’ll be there until 1 hour after sunset.

The tour will start and end at Keflavik, Iceland (KEF). When looking at flights, please arrive no later than 3PM on arrival day.

If you need to travel the day before, please let me know and I can collect you from your accommodation in the Reykjavik area.

Day 1 – Arrival Day

You will fly to Keflavik (KEF) airport. I will collect everyone from the airport in our nine seater minibus, timings will be arranged in our private WhatsApp group leading up to the tour. We’ll start making our way to our first accommodation in the Vik area with a stop on the way at the supermarket to gather some groceries for a few days. Once we’ve all settled in, we’ll run over the plan for the week and if time allows we’ll squeeze in a sunset shoot or if clear skies allow we’ll head out on a thrilling aurora chase.

Day 2 to 4 – Vik Adventures

This is where the real adventure begins.

Over the next few days in the Vik area we will be photographing at every opportunity we can get. We’ll be getting up early every morning (regardless of weather) to be on location 1 hour before sunrise, after each sunrise shoot we’ll head for breakfast before heading to our next location.

Each sunset location, we’ll be there roughly 2 hours before so that we can each scope out our sunset composition.

Day 5 to 6 – Jökulsárlón/Höfn Exploration

Our journey then pivots to the enchanting Jökulsárlón/Höfn area. We’ll be focusing on Diamond Beach, Vestrahorn & Eystrahorn! Maintaining our dedication to capturing the best shots, the early mornings and pre-sunset hours will remain our prime focus, with each locale promising unique photographic treasures.

Again, if clear skies allow, we’ll be out chasing the Aurora again.

Day 7 – Vik Return & Keflavík Transition

On our penultimate day, we return to the Vik area for one more round of sunrise and sunset shooting. As the day concludes, we’ll head to our final accommodation in the Keflavík area to be positioned optimally for those with early departures the next day. We’ll finish off with a sunset shoot at Reykjanestá .

As most people will have early flights the next morning, aurora chasing on this night will be optional.

Day 8 – Departure Day

Goodbyes are forever, I’ll be saying see you later as I hope you’ll join me on another adventure. We’ll head to the airport where everyone can catch their flights home.

What you’ll learn

On this Iceland Photography Tour I’m at your complete disposal to help and teach you everything I know about photography.

Here are a few of the key skills that I’ll be covering:

Camera Settings: It starts with the basics. RAW, Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. Learn how and when to use the various modes on your camera to get the shot you want.

CompositionComposition is everything in landscape photography. Learn how to compose a landscape photograph.

Long Exposures: Learn how to use long exposures so you can create dramatic and interesting photographs.

Histogram: Learn how to read your histogram so that you’re exposing correctly and capturing maximum data with no clipping.

Low Light: Learn how to photograph the night sky and if luck is on our side, we’ll also shoot the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).

Editing: Learn how I edit my photographs using Adobe Lightroom Classic with final touches in Photoshop.

What’s included?

  • Airport Transfers
  • Transport throughout tour
  • Accommodation (Twin Share Room)
  • Any entrance fees.
  • Photographic guidance if required
  • Flights/Travel to/from Keflavik, Iceland

Good to Know

Flights November – Fly to Keflavik (KEF) airport. Most major European airports will have direct flights to Iceland.

Accommodation: My preference was always to rent a single house as our base throughout the trip. However, due to constraints in availability and the shift of many houses to dorm-style accommodation, we’ll be transitioning to multiple stay locations. This actually works in our favour as we’ll be able to stay closer to locations and maximise shooting time and reduce driving time! We’ll start with a 3-night stay in twin rooms in the Vik area. We’ll then move onto the Jökulsárlón/Höfn area, staying in twin rooms for 2 nights. Following this, we’ll see a return to the Vik area for a 1-night stay in twin rooms. On the final night, we’ll be staying in twin rooms in the Keflavík area, optimally located for those with early morning departures.

Self Catering / Meals – All my tours are self catering. We will visit the supermarket (Bonus) on the day we arrive and gather what’s needed for a few days so that we can bring packed lunches with us each day. We will revisit the supermarket a couple of times throughout the trip too. There will be opportunities throughout the trip to visit cafes and the odd restaurant if we have time. But primarily, we will be eating as we go.

Hiking – Many of the locations are easy access from the car. One location is a 1 hour hike up hill. You must be able to walk on uneven, sometimes steep and slippery ground.

Spending Money – I average between £200-300 for the week. Card is accepted everywhere, cash isn’t needed.

UK Mobile Network – If coming from the UK, your data roaming will work and come out of your data back home.
