Introduction

The Isle of Skye is fast becoming one of the top locations in not only Scotland but the world for landscape photography. It’s famous for its unique landscapes that will take your breath away.

With awe inspiring locations like The Quiraing, Old Man of Storr, Mealt Falls, the mysterious Fairy Glen and Fairy Pools, and the stunning Eilean Donan Castle this trip is guaranteed to be spectacular and you won’t want to miss out.

Each day we will be on location before sunrise and shooting all day until after sunset.

This Isle of Skye Photography Tours is limited to ONLY 8 people so we can make the most of our time together, giving everyone the chance of plenty of one on one time with myself or Sarah.

Itinerary

There is no fixed daily itinerary on our Isle of Skye Photography Tour. We’re going to work with the weather as much as possible and visit locations based on the current forecasted weather conditions. We want to maximise your chances of going home with great images!

Each day we will be on location before sunrise and shooting all day until after sunset.

The tours starts and ends in Portree.

Day 1 to 4 – The Adventure

We will meet at 5:30pm on the first evening for introductions and a programme brief before dinner. Our photography commences the next morning with a sunrise shoot (weather dependent) and runs through until 4-4:30pm on the final day. We will visit a number of locations over the course of the workshop which will offer you numerous challenges and allow you to fully explore your creative potential. There will also be time to review and critique your images and the opportunity to discuss them with Sarah and Tyler as we look back on our days’ photography. The workshop has a relaxed format and is designed to be enjoyable as well as well as educational, so aside of improving your photography you can also enjoy the beautiful surroundings and most importantly have fun!

Each sunset location, we’ll be there roughly 2 hours before so that we can each scope out our sunset composition.

Places we’ll visit

  • Eilean Donan Castle
  • Neist Point Lighthouse

  • The Quiraing

What you’ll learn

On this trip I’m at your complete disposal to help and teach you everything I know about photography.

Here are a few of the key skills that I’ll be covering:

Camera Settings: It starts with the basics. RAW, Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. Learn how and when to use the various modes on your camera to get the shot you want.

CompositionComposition is everything in landscape photography. Learn how to compose a landscape photograph.

Long Exposures: Learn how to use long exposures so you can create dramatic and interesting photographs.

Histogram: Learn how to read your histogram so that you’re exposing correctly and capturing maximum data with no clipping.

Low Light: Learn how to photograph the night sky and if luck is on our side, we’ll also shoot the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).

Editing: Learn how I edit my photographs using Adobe Lightroom Classic with final touches in Photoshop.

What’s included?

  • Transport throughout tour
  • 4 nights B&B at the The Portree Hotel, (single occupancy en-suite)
  • Any entrance fees.
  • Photographic guidance
  • Lunch each day (soup and rolls)
  • Any travel to Portree
  • Breakfast/Dinner and alcohol or snacks.
  • Travel & Equipment Insurance
  • Visas (if necessary)

Good to Know

Accommodation: Each participant will have their own room.

Self Catering / Meals: We will go to supermarket every other day to gather what’s necessary for the coming days. Every day I advise to bring lunch and snacks to eat throughout the day.

Hiking: Many of the locations are no more than 10 minutes from the car, a few locations do require hiking. You must be able to walk on uneven, sometimes steep and slippery ground.

Spending Money: On my last trip, I managed to spend approximately £20/£25 per day. Everywhere takes card, cash isn’t needed.
