Introduction

The Isle of Skye is fast becoming one of the top locations in not only Scotland but the world for landscape photography. It’s famous for its unique landscapes that will take your breath away.

With awe inspiring locations like The Quiraing, Old Man of Storr, Mealt Falls, the mysterious Fairy Glen and Fairy Pools, and the stunning Eilean Donan Castle this trip is guaranteed to be spectacular and you won’t want to miss out.

Each day we will be on location before sunrise and shooting all day until after sunset.

As with all my Isle of Skye Photography Tours, places are limited, and with this tour it’s limited to ONLY 4 people so I can make the most of our time together, giving everyone the chance of one on one time with me.

Itinerary

There is no fixed daily itinerary on my Isle of Skye Photography Tour. I like to work with the weather as much as possible and visit locations based on the current weather conditions. I want to maximise our chances of going home with great images!

Each day we will be on location before sunrise and shooting all day until after sunset.

The tours starts and ends in Portree.

There is also the option to travel with me from Glasgow (GLA) on Sunday 4th December.  Most UK airports have flights to Glasgow arriving sometime in the morning. If you are interested in travelling with me from Glasgow, please do get in touch.

Day 1 – Arrival Day

This is arrival day, we’ll be meeting everyone in Portree at 9am on the 5th December, we’ll grab breakfast while running over the “plan” for the days ahead. We’ll grab some supplies from the supermarket, drop off our luggage at our accommodation and then head out to our first shooting location.

Day 2 to 4 – The Adventure

Over the next 3 full days we will be photographing at every opportunity we can get. We’ll be getting up early every morning (regardless of weather) to be on location 1 hour before sunrise, after each sunrise shoot we’ll head for breakfast before heading to our next location.

Each sunset location, we’ll be there roughly 2 hours before so that we can each scope out our sunset composition.

On the final evening, we’ll head out for our final meal together where we can look back on our amazing week together.

Day 5 – Departure Day

Goodbyes are forever, I’ll be saying see you later as I hope you’ll join me on another adventure.

The tour ends midday on Friday in Portree.

What you’ll learn

On this trip I’m at your complete disposal to help and teach you everything I know about photography.

Here are a few of the key skills that I’ll be covering:

Camera Settings: It starts with the basics. RAW, Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO. Learn how and when to use the various modes on your camera to get the shot you want.

CompositionComposition is everything in landscape photography. Learn how to compose a landscape photograph.

Long Exposures: Learn how to use long exposures so you can create dramatic and interesting photographs.

Histogram: Learn how to read your histogram so that you’re exposing correctly and capturing maximum data with no clipping.

Low Light: Learn how to photograph the night sky and if luck is on our side, we’ll also shoot the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).

Editing: Learn how I edit my photographs using Adobe Lightroom Classic with final touches in Photoshop.

What’s included?

  • Airport Transfers
  • Transport throughout tour
  • Accommodation (Single occupancy)
  • Any entrance fees.
  • Photographic guidance
  • Pre Workshop Zoom Meeting
  • Flights/Travel to/from Glasgow
  • Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner and alcohol or snacks.
  • Travel & Equipment Insurance
  • Visas (if necessary)

Good to Know

Accommodation: Each participant will have their own room.

Self Catering / Meals: We will go to supermarket every other day to gather what’s necessary for the coming days. Every day I advise to bring lunch and snacks to eat throughout the day.

Hiking: Many of the locations are no more than 10 minutes from the car, a few locations do require hiking. You must be able to walk on uneven, sometimes steep and slippery ground.

Spending Money: On my last trip, I managed to spend approximately £20/£25 per day. Everywhere takes card, cash isn’t needed.
