Slovenia Photography Workshop

Don’t just take my word for it…

What an amazing trip. Thanks Tyler for all your tuition. I feel I have learned a lot about composition, editing, and how to set up the camera best for each condition. The week was jam packed with visiting a variety of locations, and Tyler’s knowledge of the area and best time of day to visit each location was outstanding. And even when the weather turned against us one evening, we had a great session about photo editing. Thanks for everything, now to book the next trip….

Tyler excels at being able to address the individual photography skills of each traveler. Whether very experienced (20+ years) to someone new to the craft, he is able to identify and then teach new skills that add to each photographer’s repertoire. My wife and I joined Tyler on his Iceland expedition in early November, 2023. The sites we visited provided unique opportunities for various compositions and there was no micro-managing at the location but freedom was given to allow each to explore various approaches / methods / compositions to suit individual desires. I would highly recommend this tour and Tyler is very much a professional. Excellent!

Tyler was incredible. Great planning, great company, always putting us in the best possible positions to take great photos and awesome coach. Highly recommend with no reservations. Will go again with Tyler if I get the opportunity.

A great trip to the Dolomites. Tyler was helpful throughout, and was happy to take us to all the locations we wanted to visit. Always willing to provide help when asked, and patient throughout the whole trip.

The Plan

From my experience of running over 30 photography tours, having a fixed daily itinerary is limiting your chances of going home with the best possible images.

I work with the weather as much as possible and visit locations based on the best forecasted weather conditions. This ensures that I’m putting you in the right place at the right time.

Each morning will be on location 1 hour or so before sunrise, and each sunset we’ll be there until 1 hour after sunset.

The below will give you a rough idea of what the plan is.

Day 1 – Arrival Day

This is the arrival day. I’ll be picking everyone up from the airport around midday. Afterward, make the 30 minute drive to our accommodation at Pensión Török, making a stop at the supermarket to gather any supplies we may need. We’ll go over the plan for the week, and I’ll make sure we have our first photo shoot at sunset!

Day 2 to 6 – The Adventure

This is where the real adventure begins. Over the next five full days, we will be photographing during the best times of the day: sunrise and sunset. Each morning, we’ll rise early, regardless of the weather, to arrive at our location at least one hour before sunrise. After the sunrise shoot, we’ll return to our base for breakfast, and around midday, we’ll head back our to our next location, finishing off the day with a sunset shoot.

Day 7 – Departure Day

Goodbyes are never easy. I’ll be saying “see you later” with the hope that you’ll join me on another adventure soon. On this day, we’ll take you to the airport for your flights home.

Drop-offs back to the airport will be around midday. (This will be confirmed depending on flights)

What you’ll learn

On this trip I’m at your complete disposal to help and teach you everything I know about photography (if you want).

Here are a few of the key photography techniques that I can cover:

Composition & Light : Composition & light is everything in landscape photography. Learn more about the various techniques I use when composing a landscape photograph from the basics of rules of thirds, to symmetry to leading lines and much more.

Long Exposures: Learn how to use filters and take long exposures so you can create dramatic and interesting photographs.

Histogram: Learn how to read your histogram so that you’re exposing correctly and capturing maximum data with no clipping.

Low Light: Learn how to photograph the night sky or low light.

Panoramas: Learn how to shoot panoramas; both horizontal and vertical

Lightroom: Learn how I import, organise and edit a range of my photographs using Adobe Lightroom Classic

Photoshop: Learn how I finalise my images in Adobe Photoshop

Exporting: Learn how I export and sharpen my images for Social Media & Web

Good to Know

Packing List – A full packing list will be emailed after booking.

Accommodation: We’ll be staying in Pensión Török, each participant will have their own room for the duration of the stay.

Flights – Fly to Ljubljana (LJU). I will fly into Slovenia a few days before the tour begins. I try and work with everyone in terms of their flights. All I ask is if you’re flying in on the day the tour start, just ensure your flight arrives no later than midday, if you can’t get a flight before midday, then I advise you to fly in a day or 2 earlier.

Meeting Point: We’ll meet at Ljubljana (LJU) around midday. After I’ve picked everyone up, we’ll me heading straight towards our accommodation with a stop at the supermarket to pick up some supplies for the days ahead.

Ending Point: Drop offs at the airport will be outside the terminal at Ljubljana (LJU) at midday.

Hiking – Many of the locations do require hiking. You don’t need to be an athlete but you must be able to walk on uneven, sometimes steep and slippery ground for maybe up to an hour one way.

Self Catering – All my tours are based on self catering. We will visit the supermarket on the day we arrive and gather what’s needed for a few days so that we can bring packed lunches with us each day. We will revisit the supermarket a couple of times throughout the trip too.  There will be opportunities throughout the trip to visit cafes and the odd restaurant if we have time. But primarily, we will be eating as we go.

UK Mobile Network – If coming from the UK, your data roaming will work and come out of your data back home.
